Why Skincare Matters

Given the skin's ability to absorb what we put on it, it is important to use skincare free of chemicals and toxins. When you apply a product to your skin, it can absorb a significant amount of the chemicals, up to 60-70%. This absorption can be rapid and direct, bypassing the body’s natural detoxification process in the liver, going directly into the bloodstream. Whereas, when you ingest substances, they go through the digestive system, where enzymes and acids break them down. The liver then processes these substances, filtering out many toxins before they enter the bloodstream. This process reduces the overall amount of toxins that ultimately affect your health.

It is especially important what you use on your face, scalp, and underarms because there are more blood vessels and thinner skin in these areas leading to higher absorption.

Most personal care products like shampoo, hairspray, lotions, and perfumes are riddled with xeno-estrogens that come in the form of phthalates, parabens, and petroleum chemicals. Unfortunately, these products may also come packaged in BPAs or BPS plastic containers that may leach even more estrogenic chemicals. Even though there are countless studies on the harmful effects of estrogenic chemicals, many of them haven’t been tested for human safety and go unregulated.
